Why I Built This

I’m a WordPress developer who got tired of fighting the same NextGen errors over and over again. I spent hours researching, troubleshooting, and trying every “solution” I could find online.

Nothing worked consistently.

So I built something that did. I created a plugin that accesses NextGen gallery data directly, bypassing the broken display system entirely. I tested it on my own sites, then on client sites. It worked reliably every single time.

Now I’m sharing it with you.

It’s not another NextGen display type. Those rely on NextGen’s broken registration system. NGVF doesn’t touch that system at all.

Technical Details (For the Developers)

How It Bypasses NextGen’s Issues

NextGen’s display types use a complex Factory pattern that registers display modules. This system has SQL query bugs that cause fatal errors.

NGVF doesn’t use any of that. Instead, it:

1. Queries the wp_ngg_gallery table directly for gallery data
2. Retrieves images from wp_ngg_pictures table
3. Uses WordPress core functions for image sizing
4. Renders HTML with vanilla CSS and JavaScript

No dependencies on NextGen’s display registration. No reliance on buggy code paths.

What About NextGen Updates?

Because NGVF queries the database directly instead of using NextGen’s display API, it’s immune to changes in NextGen’s display type system. As long as NextGen uses the same database structure (which has been stable for years), NGVF continues working.

Proposed Solution

Web321 proposes to build using WordPress, the most powerful, elegant content management system (CMS) available on the web today. WordPress currently powers over a third of all websites on the internet, including big names like Disney, Sony & Target.

The site will be themed using the Divi theme system (the most widely-used premium WordPress theme and website building framework). Divi is a user-friendly, endlessly flexible website scaffolding & design system that allows Web321 to build sites faster and with built-in responsiveness for all screen sizes.

As with all our builds, Web321 will ensure that the site is secure, easy to update, high-performance and search-engine compliant. To create the desired functionality, Web321 will deploy the following integrations and premium plugins on the site:

• Gravity Forms & Advanced Custom Fields to allow a more dynamic collection and display of information on the site
• Tidio Chatbot & Live Chat to carry over the chat functionality from your pre-existing site
• Google Analytics will be deployed to track and understand website traffic trends

We include as part of our development & maintenance services access to our premium plugin licenses as long as you remain a Web321 subscriber. Should you choose to part ways with Web321 at the end of your contract, you will need to renew these licenses at your own cost going forward.

When the contract term is up, you’d have the option to keep it going on a month-to-month basis, and as part of that, we would include a complimentary complete design refresh on the site every 3 years. Otherwise, you could terminate the contract and either move maintenance in-house, to a provider of your choice, or we could continue to provide a la carte support at our current support rate.

We do strongly recommend some kind of ongoing site support, as neglected software updates can leave your site open to exploits, and a lack of proper backups & security checks can mean months of lost updates and work by your staff if there’s a problem.

For companies with legacy systems, we wanted to advise that, should a client choose to leave Web321 before the contract is up, our client will be able to take their site to another provider after paying out the balance of fees. WordPress sites are built to be extremely portable and can be hosted almost anywhere. 

Since we operate on a lease-to-own model, we will simply bill you for the remaining balance of your website design fee (available from us at any time upon request) and the site and all its assets will be released to you. Pages:

Both posts and pages use the WordPress editor, so adding text, images, and other media is familiar. However, pages often have simpler layouts, while posts may include more formatting and interactive elements to engage readers.

Posts help you share timely content and keep your readers informed, while pages help you present important, lasting information about your site or business in a clear, navigable way.

Posts and pages have different features and settings. For example, posts may have comments enabled by default, whereas pages may not. Posts may also have tags and categories, while pages do not. It’s important to understand these differences when creating content on a WordPress website, as it can help you choose the right content type for your needs.

Posts are used to create blog posts, which are typically chronological and timely. Posts are organized by date and can be commented on and shared on social media. They are meant to be timely much like blog posts.

Pages are used to create static content, such as your website’s homepage, about page, or contact page. Pages are not organized by date and cannot be commented on or shared on social media. Pages are more evergreen and foundational to your site: front pages, contact pages, FAQ pages etc..

The biggest distinction is how they use different templates. Styling a page can be much more unique. If you update the blog template it will affect every blog.

From a templating / theming perspective, in the core of WordPress you will see single.php and post.php. Then you will learn about the loop. The loop is what lists multiple posts and summaries. You will never have a summary of pages. The template hierarchy is very useful, you can read about it here. It’s common that a loop will iterate through relevant posts, but it’s uncommon to find a list of pages. That said, WordPress’ search will usually display both pages and posts in the search results.
